LIVE on Norwegian Epic Day 5: A Grand Day in Grand Cayman!

Yesterday we were in George Town, Grand Cayman! Well, us and everyone else who decided to cruise on any cruise line this week. We were in port with 4 other ships, for a total of 5 ships on this small little island. That’s a lot of people.

I proceeded to do my unusual morning routine of getting up at the butt crack of dawn to watch the sunrise. This sunrise was the best out of all of them. It was like fire on the horizon! Yesterday morning I limited my self to only 47 breakfasts. Okay, maybe it was only 3, but still, it’s a whole meal lower than usual! I’m on a diet. Who am I kidding. I couldn’t even type that with a straight face! First breakfast was 2 chocolate croissants, second was Eggs Benedict, and third was Huevos Rancheros. They all were very good!

We got off the ship at around 10:30 after the hoard of people had already gone to the island. Tendering was a lot easier here. The tender boats were a lot more wheelchair accessible, and Emily never had to get out of her chair. Tendering is an awesome opportunity to get cool pics of the ship and all of the other ships in port! We had Marella Discovery 2 (formerly Legend of the Seas for Royal Caribbean), Carnival Vista (again), Liberty of the Seas, and Celebrity Reflection in port with us.

We had originally planned on going to the beach for the day, but we decided against that. Instead we visited the town and did some shopping. Everybody and their mothers, and their mother’s mothers were in the shops. It’s a small space, but they have some really cool things! There is also an EXCELLENT view of the ships from the island, which meant we had to stop every 4 seconds so that I could get 700 different angles of all of ships in port. We felt very safe there, and it was very wheelchair accessible.

We got back on the ship at 12:30, and made a bold choice to eat at the Garden Cafe for lunch. It actually wasn’t as busy as it usually is. I stuffed my face with pretzel bread, french fries, and ice cream. It was very filling and healthy.

After lunch I got this motivation to do some work, which lasted about a millisecond. As soon as I logged into everything, I decided I’d wait. Procrastination is key ladies and gentlemen. Who works on vacation?!

We all relaxed for the rest of the day, and drank a lot of daiquiris. When you have the Ultimate Beverage Package, how could you not?? I went back up to my hidden little spot on deck 19 and just chilled.

This is gonna come as a major shock to a lot of you…….are you ready? WE SKIPPED DINNER!!!! We had to be at the Epic Theater for Priscilla Queen of the Desert 20 minutes early to take advantage of our priority seating. We got some okay seats in the back of the theater. We didn’t feel like making Emily walk down all of those stairs to any other seats. Let me tell you, no theater on any NCL ships compare to the Stardust Theatre on NCL’s Jewel Class ships! They really knew what they were doing with those ships, and for some reason, didn’t expand it to the rest of their fleet.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a broadway show that’s about an hour and a half long showcasing the adventure of 3 drag queens traveling across Australia to do a come back show at a casino. It was very funny. However, it is also EXTREMELY risqué (and yes, now I actually mean risqué), and it could very easily offend certain people. The three leads of the show were really good, and so were all of the other actors and actresses. The technical aspect of the show was also very interesting. If I had to use one word to describe the show, that would be it. Interesting.

There was a small, very large issue that occurred toward the very end of the show. One of the actresses (not the leads) fell into a trap door on the stage. They were dancing and the actress was going backwards, so she couldn’t see behind her. She fell right into that hole (pictured below). The other two kept dancing until one of the backstage people came over the loud speaker and said “We’re going to have to stop the show here folks.” The other two actresses immediately stopped dancing, and ran off the stage very frightened. The lights when up and the room was dead silent. When I say dead silent, I mean like I thought I had gone deaf silent. They finally closed the curtain and turned on some music after what seemed like an eternity. After about 5 minutes, Andre our cruise director came out to tell us that no one had been hurt, and that the show would go on. From now on, whenever I hear the song “Hot Stuff,” (which isn’t often) I will think of that poor person falling!

Someone who reads this blog asked me on Facebook to get a picture with her daughter who was in the show. Well, I think I did, but I’m not 100% sure. The pictures are below, so let me know.

The rest of the night is history. I went to the 80’s Dance Party, hosted by Andre the amazing cruise director! Today we are in Cozumel! I’ll see you tomorrow with a comprehensive review! See you then!
