The Jamaica Gleaner published a very confusing article on Friday, breaking this news. The mayor of Falmouth reported that three ships, the Allure of the Seas, another Royal Caribbean ship, and a Celebrity ship, would no longer sail to the port. These three ships, all together, brought 10,000 passengers per visit. Royal Caribbean said this was due to passengers complaining of harassment from vendors and tour bus operators, not just in Falmouth, but in Ochos Rios, and Montego Bay.
Local officials are hoping that the cruise lines will return sometime in either 2019 or 2020. In the meantime, they said that they will be working to fix the problems in the areas of concern for the cruise lines.
The port of Falmouth opened six years ago after Royal Caribbean provided the funds to build a port in the historical area. The pier is able to accommodate Royal Caribbean’s largest ships, and the largest ships in the world, their Oasis-Class ships.
