The Carnival Fantasy currently sails to 3 and 4 night cruises to the Bahamas from Miami, Florida.
On July 26, 2011, two Carnival cruise ships collided into each other in call port Key West, Florida. The USCG investigation report says Carnival Imagination, already docked, was hit by the Fantasy. The ships struck stern to stern, and sustained minor damages. No injuries, nor pollution or structural damages were reported. The Fantasy ship’s navigation crew were mandatorily tested for drugs and alcohol. The incident happened when the Fantasy was on a 6-day Florida Bahamas cruise from Charleston SC, and the Imagination was on a 4-day Bahamas cruise from Miami, Florida.
July 23, 2008, a ship collision accident caused the closure of a 47 mile long stretch of the waterway, and also included the ship’s homeport New Orleans Louisiana. Since the closure went on for several days for cleaning, the current cruise ended in Mobile, Alabama instead. All leaving passengers were provided transportation back to New Orleans (cruise port or the airport). Next itinerary also departed from Mobile AB. The line provided bus transportation from New Orleans.
On October 27, 2008, at 10:00 PM, the ship experienced a heavy listing caused by a technical glitch. The vessel was in Mississippi River waters. A tug boat assistance was requested. The problem was fixed quickly, and the ship continued toward Progreso, Mexico.
On December 14, 2009, in homeport Mobile Alabama, the ship failed to dock for passenger disembarkation and embarkation. All booked on the next cruise passengers were allowed to cancel with a future Carnival cruise credit, and the itinerary was changed from 5 to 4 nights, and Calica Mexico was skipped. All passengers on the current cruise were refunded 1 day, and received $20 PP in on board credit as compensation for the Gov fees in the Calica port.
On October 15, 2011, the ship’s SCC unit, speed control computer, malfunctioned. The SSC was replaced. After its power supply replacement, the system continued to show insufficient power. The analysis showed the new unit was causing the problem. The ship left Nassau Bahamas on 1 shaft. While en-route to homeport Charleston, a new power supply unit was installed, and the system check of the SCC showed ok.
On February 22, 2016, due to technical issue, the ship traveled at slower cruising speeds, itinerary changes were made to the 4-day Western Caribbean itinerary roundtrip from Miami, Forida. The scheduled ports of call, Cozumel, Mexico and Key West, Florida, were replaced with the Bahamas, Nassau and Freeport. The changed Mexican itinerary was also a themed one. It had a live performance by the US actress Kathy Griffin pre-scheduled for Feb 24, during the ship’s stop in Cozumel. However, this event was canceled, and all pre-purchased tickets were fully refunded. As compensation, all passengers were given $50 in on board credit, plus a 25% off future Carnival cruises.
On May 25, 2009, an 18-year-old, male passenger jumped overboard at approximately 10:00 PM. When the accident occurred, the ship was 15 miles southwest of Tampa Florida, en-route from homeport New Orleans to Key West, Florida. The search and rescue operation failed to find the man’s body.
On July 16, 2010, while the ship was at the end of 5-day Bahamas cruise, a male passenger died from natural causes.
On December 25, 2010, while the ship was en-rote to Charleston from the Bahamas, a male passenger died of natural causes.
On February 12, 2011, a female passenger sustained an injury, fractured right leg femur, after tripping in a door threshold and falling on deck 12. She was disembarked in Charleston, and transported to local hospital.
On August 24, 2011, a female passenger suffered an injury, minor fracture of pelvic bone, after tripping and falling. Since the infirmary’s X-ray machine was in-operational, when the ship docked in Charleston, medical personnel boarded the ship and took her to the nearest hospital.
On May 7, 2012, a male passenger sustained an injury, a fractured right ankle. He was dancing on the Lido deck during a party when he lost balance, and fell on his right side. He was taken to the on board infirmary. In Charleston he was transported to Roper St Francis Hospital.
On June 10, 2012, a male passenger sustained an injury, fractured right ankle, at the upper level of Universe Lounge while playing a group game of “capture the flag”.
On June 30, 2012, a female passenger sustained an injury, on the head, left hip, and left knee, after falling on stairs. She ended up being medevaced.
On September 16, 2013, while the ship was docked at Cooper River cruise terminal, a female passenger sustained an injury, fractured left wrist. She lost her balance and fell from a bar stool on the Lido deck. She was disembarked.
On August 13, 2014, a male passenger sustained an injury, left knee broken patella, on the Promenade Deck. While walking towards Majestic Bar, and going through the fire doors, he missed the stairs ahead and fell down two flights. He was transferred to the on board infirmary and was diagnosed. The incident happened when the vessel was sailing through the harbor channel, and returned to port Charleston, where he was disembarked and transferred to a local hospital.
On July 16, 2015, upon the ship’s arrival in homeport Charleston SC, a 41-year-old male passenger was arrested on charges of child pornography. The man was charged of 3rd-degree “sexual exploitation of a minor”.
