On Friday June 3, in Ketchikan, Alaska, Celebrity Cruise Line’s the Celebrity Infinity, collided with berth three, damaging the ship and dock.
The Celebrity Infinity was on a 7 day Alaskan itinerary from Vancouver, Canada, when it tried to dock in Ketchikan, Alaska. Due to gale force winds up to 45 MPH, the ship came in too fast and hit the dock. The dock fell into the water.
Thankfully there were no reported injuries.
Harbormaster Steve Corporon said that berth three sustained $2-$3 million worth of damage. Corporon said that the berth will be unusable until it is fixed, which could take at least a month.
After being moved to berth 2, the USCG had to inspect to see if the ship was seaworthy. Later that day @RCLcorp on Twitter tweeted that the Infinity was cleared, and would continue on its scheduled itinerary.
#CelebrityInfinity was cleared by authorities and has set sail from Ketchikan, Alaska. She will continue on her scheduled itinerary.
